With internationally recognized food safety and environmental certification, Tambov Turkey is set to break into the Russian and European markets with its new “Pava Pava” brand turkey products.
Located in the Pervomaisk district of Tambov region, the firm’s new facility for the production and processing of turkey meat has now reached full production.
Tambov Turkey is a joint venture between Russia’s largest vertically integrated meat and feed producer, Cherkizovo Group, and Grupo Fuertes of Spain. Representatives from both partners and their respective governments recently attended the official opening of the facility.
“It took us five years and RUB10.2 billion (US$180 million) to launch this project,” said Sergey Mikhailov, General Director of Cherkizovo Group, at the opening ceremony. Turkey meat has great potential on the Russian market and total turkey meat production in Russia was about 230,000 metric tons in 2016. Tambov Turkey added another 50,000 metric tons today and can double the install capacity up to 100,000 metric tons. This is a serious step on the way to Russian food security, and towards developing its export opportunities over the long run.”
President of Grupo Fuertes, Tomás Fuertes, said that Tambov Turkey is his firm’s first project in Russia and with Cherkizovo Group, and stressed that the new facility controls product quality at all stages of production.
With more than one million birds, Tambov Turkey’s production complex includes an incubator producing 5.6 million eggs per year, four grower sites, and nine finisher sites. The feed mill has an annual capacity of 180,000 metric tons and elevator storage of up to 90,000 metric tons, and there is a high-tech processing plant. The facility supports 850 jobs.
Tambov Turkey products are already being sold by large retail chains in Russia. With its international food safety management compliance certificates ISO 22000:2005 and FSSC 22000, the firm appears to be eyeing new home and exports markets.
