Moy Park, in partnership with packaging experts Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), introduces the 'kp Elite' tray range, marking a significant stride towards sustainable packaging solutions.
The 'kp Elite' tray, crafted from recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET), embodies clarity, strength and lightweight properties. Serving as a modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) solution, it extends product shelf-life, curbing food waste and is readily recyclable through kerbside collection.
This innovative addition to Moy Park's sustainable packaging portfolio slashes plastic consumption by 50 tons, propelling the company closer to its goal of transitioning to mono-material (recyclable) plastic trays.
Matt Harris, head of packaging, underscores the significance of sustainable packaging, affirming that 'kp Elite' ticks all the boxes—it's 100% recyclable, made from recycled content and contributes to plastic weight reduction. Moreover, the company is poised to surpass the 2025 deadline set by On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL), ensuring continued curbside recyclability for its poultry trays.
As part of this collaboration, Moy Park integrates kp's advanced lidding film, which incorporates 30% post-consumer recycled plastic, further reducing reliance on virgin plastic.
This milestone follows Moy Park's recent achievement of reducing overall packaging by 10% over the past year, propelled by its strategic approach encompassing removal, reduction, recycling and research. These initiatives align with Moy Park's commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
