Butterball LLC has purchased Gusto Packing Co. of Montgomery, Ill. Terms were not disclosed.
Gusto is a family-owned and -operated business that produces bone-in smoked pork and turkey products, pork and turkey deli meats, hickory- and apple-wood smoked bacon, smoked boneless hams, cooked hams and spiral sliced hams.
With the acquisition, Butterball gains a 260,000 square-foot production plant, which will add about 325 million pounds of processing capacity and the ability to develop new products. Butterball said it expects to retain most of Gusto's workforce of 500.
