HumaneWatch looks at HSUS donation history

Small percentage of funds goes to help animals

HumaneWatch.org, which serves as a watchdog over the HSUS, says the organization, which calls itself a group that supports local pet shelters, donated $17,000 to the state of Illinois from 2006-2008.

During the most recent three-year period for which figures are available, HSUS raised $288 million, and contributed $7 million to pet shelters nationwide, according to HumaneWatch.org, in a report entitled “Not Your Local Humane Society."

The director of HumaneWatch.org, David Martosko, said “HSUS with $192 million in the bank, can clearly afford to tackle the biggest problems faced by animal shelters in Illinois.”
