The UDSA has raised its expectations for U.S. turkey production in 2014. The agency, in its June World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, called for an additional 10 million pounds of U.S. turkey to be produced in 2014.
USDA raised its projections from 5.697 billion pounds in its May report to 5.707 billion pounds in the June report. USDA cited higher-than-expected U.S. turkey production during the second quarter of 2014 as the primary reason for the increase.
USDA maintained its May projection of 5.925 billion pounds of turkey to be produced domestically in 2015.
US broiler forecasts lowered
Citing a slower pace of industry expansion than earlier expected, the USDA lowered its forecast for U.S. broiler production in 2014. The June WASDE report called for 2014 broiler production to be at 38.23 billion pounds, down from the 38.43 billion pounds forecast in May.
The agency’s forecast for 2015 U.S. broiler production was also lowered. The June estimate called for 39.23 billion pounds in 2014, down from the 39.28 billion projected one month ago.
USDA ups projections for 2014 egg production
The USDA has raised its forecast for 2014 egg production, calling for 8.1 billion dozen eggs in its June WASDE report. The May WASDE estimate was for 8.07 billion dozen eggs. The increased forecast is based on strong table egg prices that are expected to support increased production.
Projections for U.S. egg production in 2015 are unchanged from May, when the USDA forecast 8.18 billion dozen eggs.
