The World Packaging Organisation, is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, international federation of national packaging institutes and associations, regional packaging federations and other interested parties, including corporations and trade associations.

Founded in 1968, the aim of the organization is to: encourage the development of packaging technology, science, access and engineering; contribute to the development of international trade; and, to stimulate education and training in packaging.

Amongst its activities are providing a forum for those organizations interested in furthering the state of the art of packaging, monitoring and communicating with its members on packaging-related issues such as consumer safety, food preservation, and environmental impact; and assisting in the creation of conditions that will help to optimize the conservation, preservation and distribution of foodstuffs and other packaged products.

The organization’s website contains links to its members around the world, as well as a series of downloadable documents covering areas ranging from packaging and food safety, to trends to sustainability. Details of packaging regulations from selected countries are also available via the website.

Additionally, WPO offers statistics and analysis and an overview of packaging trends and why they are occurring, along with a calendar of events. The organization also runs an awards event to promote packaging excellence.

Membership is open to those not only with a direct involvement in packaging, but also to those with simply an interest.
