The 13th China Animal Husbandry Expo (CAHE) concluded May 20 in one of China’s most populous cities. Hosted by the China Animal Agriculture Association, this annual event encompasses all types of animal agriculture production, which is held in a different city each year was hosted in Chongqing at the modern Chongqing International Expo Center. The CAHE is China’s largest exhibition for animal husbandry, with attendee numbers exceeding a record number of 150,000. In addition, more than 1,250 exhibitors were present throughout more than eight exhibition halls.
“Starting the week of activities at CAHE with the Global Pig Forum attracting nearly 500 attendees, this annual event for China’s animal production industry is increasingly drawing senior level management from the major poultry and swine producers throughout China,” said Dingding Li of Shanghai LyJa Cultural Media Co. LTD, publishers of Poultry International China and Pig International China magazines. “The increased decision-making level of attendees is a direct result of the continued year-over-year quality improvements from both local and international exhibitors and their significant investment in professional exhibits, high-resolution video and solutions based information.”
Avian influenza in North America top concern of CAHE attendees
While there was much discussion on the floors about the increasing investment and modernization in China’s swine industry as well as the concerns about how the low poultry consumption levels from China’s consumers is challenging producers, the hottest discussion topic throughout the show was avian influenza in North America. Producers and suppliers alike wanted to know how this could have happened in North America, the place with the best biosecurity in the global poultry industry. They also wondered what its impact will be on the Chinese market.
Several local breeders are forecasting new opportunities ahead to expand their business in China as a result of the ongoing spread of avian influenza in the U.S. and Canada, and especially as the U.S. poultry industry considers vaccination as an option.
The CAHE is hosted in May each year. The 2016 event location will be announced in the coming months.
