Brazil: meats production forecast to grow 27% through 2021

    Aug 12, 2011By Fabio Nunes

Brazilian chicken, beef and pork production forecasted to grow 27% in the next decade according to the recent study “Brazil - Agribusiness Outlook 2010/2011 a 2020/2021”, a joint initiative of Ministry of Agriculture and EMBRAPA. Currently in 24.6 million MT annually, the production must grow to 31.2 million MT in the period, a 6.6 million MT rise.

Chicken meat must lead with 30 % growth in the period, from 12.1 million MT to 15.7 million MT. Beef is forecast to come second in growth, 24%, from 9.2 million MT to 11.4 million MT and pork third, 20.6%, from 3.4 million MT to 4.1 million MT.

José Gasques, the general coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture strategic planning area and head coordinator of the study, says, “Besides the increase in meats production and the fact Brazil is a leading meats exporter, we may expect the demand’s main driving force over the period will be the domestic market instead of the export market”.
