House of Raeford indicted for wastewater issues

Company says it is innocent

Reports say House of Raeford Farms and plant manager Gregory Steenblock have been indicted by a federal grand jury for violations to the Clean Water Act. The company is accused of knowingly discharging turkey wastewater in amounts that its treatment system could not handle.

House of Raeford Farms responded in a statement that to make its wastewater easier for the city to treat, the company “pretreats” its water before sending it to the city’s plant.

The company says it designed and built an upgraded pretreatment facility, which cost the company $1.4 million.

The statement goes on to say House of Raeford Farms and its employees are innocent of the charges in the indictment.
