Israel's agriculture ministry's animal feed supervision bill, which aims to see tighter controls placed on animal feed and its related supply chain, has passed its first Knesset reading, according to reports.
The new legislation would allow random testing of animal feed and the potential recall of feed or raw materials found to be harmful to animals or humans. It would also allow for stricter state supervision of imports, the production process, the supply chain and the marketing and distribution of animal feed. "This bill aims to replace interim protocols regulating animal feed and set regulations that address all forms of animal feed, as well as set a legislative framework that embodies an updated policy of supervision that ensures the use of the highest quality feed, from both a safety and nutritional perspective," said the ministry.
