JBS reports net loss in 2011

JBS reported a net loss of R$75.7 million (US$41.4 million) for 2011, due to the company's chicken operation which incurred a loss of R$833.3 million (US$495.7 million), according to the company's latest financial report. JBS consolidated net revenue in 2011 was R$61.8 billion (US$33.8 billion), an increase of 12.9 percent compared to R$54.7 billion (US$29.9 billion) in 2010.

JBS consolidated net revenue in 2011 was R$61.8 billion (US$33.8 billion), an increase of 12.9 percent compared to R$54.7 billion (US$29.9 billion) in 2010. This expansion was caused primarily by the performance in the U.S. beef and pork units, which posted average price increases of 20 percent during 2011, besides the JBS Mercosul result which also presented double-digit growth, according to JBS.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, JBS posted revenue of R$16.9 billion (US$9.3 billion), 18.3 percent more than the same period in 2010 and 8.8 percent higher than in the third quarter of 2011.
