Second Minnesota farm ready to repopulate after AI

From WATTAgNet:

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health said that a second turkey farm in the state that had been hit by H5N2 avian influenza is ready to repopulate its flock.

The farm is located in Stearns County. The announcement of the Stearns County flock being ready to repopulate comes just days after the first Minnesota turkey flock to be hit by avian influenza began to grow turkeys again. That flock is located in Pope County.

With nearly 100 confirmed cases of avian influenza in 2015, Minnesota remains the state that has had the most cases. Stearns County has had 12 avian influenza detections, according to the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

According to the Minnesota board, 14 farms affected by avian influenza have completed the cleaning and disinfection process and could soon begin restocking.

To date, more than 47 million birds have been affected by the avian influenza outbreak in the United States. Additional avian influenza cases have been reported in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.

Those avian influenza cases involve commercial poultry flocks, backyard poultry flocks and wild birds.
