Pakistan achieved about 834,000 tons of poultry production against the target of 758,000 tons in financial year 2011–2012, and it is expected that the sector will also reach the 2012–2013 target of 937,000 tons. Poultry production has increased along with consumption, which has gone up due to the meat's affordability in comparison to beef and mutton. According to Statistic Division, the poultry contribution in agriculture and livestock is 6.4 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively, and poultry meat contributes 25.8 percent of Pakistan's total meat production.
