US corn crop 95 percent planted, soybeans 78 percent

U.S. farmers have planted 95 percent of their corn crop and 78 percent of soybeans, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) recent crop progress report.

Texas is the first state to report 100 percent of its corn plantings completed, with Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska reporting 99 percent, Illinois at 98 percent and Indiana at 95 percent. In soybean plantings, Nebraska has reported 96 percent completion, Iowa at 94 percent and Louisiana at 92 percent.

The USDA said 80 percent of the corn crop and 50 percent of soybeans have emerged.

Regarding crop condition, the USDA said 2 percent of the corn crop is rated poor, 22 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
