US broiler exports increase 4.1 percent in October

U.S. broiler shipments in October increased 4.1 percent when compared to October 2012, while U.S. turkey exports increased only slightly. The October poultry trade figures were released December 16 in the USDA Livestock, Poultry and Dairy Outlook report.

Broiler shipments for October totaled 675.5 million pounds, reflecting a 4.1 percent rise. Mexico was the top export partner for the month, receiving 115.7 million pounds, followed by Russia, which received 55 million pounds. Angola, Canada and Cuba rounded out the U.S. poultry industry's top five trade partners, importing 47.5 million, 35.2 million and 29.7 million pounds, respectively. Also receiving significant increases in U.S. broiler shipments in October were Mauritania, Kosovo, Peru and Moldova, with each increasing beyond 250 percent.

U.S. turkey exports in October totaled 77.4 million pounds, a small increase from October 2012. Mexico was the leading importer of U.S. turkeys, receiving 58 percent of all U.S. shipments at 44.8 million pounds - a 20.8 percent increase.
