A small explosion and fire occurred at a Sanderson Farms poultry processing complex on Aviation Parkway in Waco, Texas. Nobody was injured in the incident, which took place on the morning of October 31.

Chris Littleton, Waco’s acting assistant fire chief, told the Waco Tribune that the fire started when a water pump tipped over and ignited a tarp. The tarp covered a lagoon that stores some of the waste from processing operations. The tarp and methane gas coming from the lagoon ignited, but did not spread to other areas within the Sanderson Farms operation.

Seven units from the Waco Fire Department were on the scene, using about 2,000 gallons to extinguish the poultry plant fire. The fire was out within about an hour.
