Quick service restaurant chain Quiznos has joined the movement toward cage-free eggs, pledging that all of the eggs it sources will come from cage-free operations. The chain plans to complete the transition by 2025, but has a goal of reaching that objective by 2022.
“Quiznos has been actively engaged in animal welfare initiatives for nearly a decase, and we’re pleased to announce this latest phase in that effort,” said Elizabeth Sapp, Quiznos senior vice president of communications. “Switching to cage-free eggs is the right thing for our company, customers, and of course, the animals.
Quiznos announced its commitment to cage-free eggs along with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) which has been a longtime advocate for cage-free eggs. The organization called Quiznos “a real leader in animal welfare.”
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Quiznos has locations across the United States and in 34 countries.
The sandwich chain becomes the second major restaurant group to announce a move to cage-free eggs in 2016, with Wendy’s making a similar announcement on January 4. Numerous other restaurant chains revealed plans to convert to cage-free eggs in 2015, including McDonald’s, Arby’s, Subway, Shake Shack, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jack in the Box, Qdoba, Taco Bell, Panera Bread, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels.
