WATT PoultryUSA has released its latest annual Top Poultry Companies magazine issue, containing exclusive data and insights on the top broiler and turkey producers in the United States in 2015. According to the data, U.S. broiler companies produced more than 851 million pounds of RTC chicken in 2015, while U.S. turkey companies slaughtered nearly 7,070 million live pounds.

Top-ranked U.S. broiler producer Tyson Foods produced 175.6 million pounds of broiler meat in 2015. The company was one of just four producers on the Top Companies list that registered a decrease in 2015. Its closest competitors, Pilgrim’s (141.67 million lbs. RTC), Sanderson Farms (66.2 million lbs. RTC) and Perdue Foods (61.74 million lbs. RTC) all grew production compared to 2014.

However, it was the smaller producers who saw the greatest gains over the year. Farmer’s Pride (ranked 24), OMP Foods (ranked 25) and MBA Poultry (ranked 26) reported the largest percentage increases in RTC chicken production in 2015.

As the mid-size and smaller producers increase their production and consolidation in the industry continues, from 2000-2015, U.S. broiler industry market share held by the Top 3 and Top 5 firms fell slightly, while it rose most among firms ranked 6-10.

In the turkey sector, highly pathogenic avian influenza resulted in a net decrease of 66.1 million pounds of live turkeys slaughtered in 2015 among the Top 23 U.S. turkey producers. Despite the overall reduction in live turkeys slaughtered, eight turkey companies on the list increased production and seven had no change in production.

This exclusive list of top poultry companies is part of WATTAgNet.com’s Top Poultry Companies database that houses information on more than 1,000 poultry companies worldwide.
