US sees season’s first report of DON in corn

The first report of deoxynivalenol (DON) in U.S. corn this harvest season has come in, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from September 26.

The first report of deoxynivalenol (DON) in U.S. corn this harvest season has come in, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from September 26.

DON was reported in corn in Indiana, at 7 parts per million.

Nine percent of the U.S. corn crop has been harvested, which is 3 points behind the five-year average. Illinois is 5 points behind the five-year average, and Kansas is 12 points behind; however, North Carolina is 16 points ahead of the average and Tennessee is 14 points ahead.

DON has already been reported in wheat and barley in several U.S. states and Canadian provinces.
