Exports of poultry meat and beef from Belarus to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could begin later this year.

News of the forthcoming trade came from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, according to Aleksei Bogdanov, head of the Ministry’s Foreign Economic Activity Department, reports Belarusian news agency, BelTA.

Bogdanov said that, at the recent Gulfood event in Dubai, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the UAE agreed for inspections to be carried out at a number of Belarusian meat companies in the coming months.

Preliminary work, including Halal certification, has already started and as the official authorization procedure normally takes no more than five months, the UAE could be receiving the first consignments of poultry and beef from Belarus before the end of 2017.

News of increased meat exports will be welcomed by the Belarusian animal feed sector. Companies there faced a number of challenges to their profitability in 2016, including low grain prices, state regulation of the economy, and falling demand for feed.
