Continuing with its mission to improve poultry and egg production in Sub-Saharan Africa, the World Poultry Foundation (WPF) has given a direct grant to the Future Farmers Foundation of South Africa (FFFSA) to train young current and future farmers in the U.S. on poultry husbandry.
Focusing on young South African men and women between the ages of 16 and 30 with a passion for poultry and egg production, FFFSA will use the grant for internships with U.S. poultry and egg companies.
“The WPF is pleased to work with Future Farmers to provide once in a life time opportunity for these young people to learn while doing and return to South Africa better prepared to assist farmers to develop and to improve their own operations,” said WPF CEO Randall Ennis.
Ennis said that the goals and missions of WPF and FFFSA are closely aligned, and that Future Farmers CEO Judy Stuart “is a dynamic and capable person who is excited to initiate this new program.”
The grant will fund up to five interns to come to the U.S. in 2017 to work at host companies.
To increase the number of suitably qualified interns, FFFSA is seeking U.S. poultry and egg companies in the U.S. to participate in the internship program.
