Jennie-O farm damaged, driver killed in Wisconsin storm

A Jennie-O Turkey Store farm was damaged and a man identified as a driver for the company was killed after a tornado blew through Barron County, Wisconsin on May 16.

A Jennie-O Turkey Store farm was damaged and a man identified as a driver for the company was killed after a tornado blew through Barron County, Wisconsin on May 16.

Fatality of driver

Authorities told MPR News that the tornado went through a mobile home park, injuring more than 2 dozen people, and killing resident Eric Gavin, 45. Gavin was identified as a driver for Jennie-O Turkey Store.

Hormel Foods, parent company of Jennie-O Turkey Store, stated that the company was “incredibly saddened” to hear of Gavin’s death.

Turkey farm receives damage

A farm that raises birds for Jennie-O that is near the mobile home park, also sustained damages, according to WQOW.

Hormel confirmed that six barns at the farm were damaged. Some may be torn up so badly that they are considered a total loss.

The company has not yet released how many turkeys were lost in the storm.
