From WATTAgNet:

2 Sisters Food Group has confirmed that it will close a poultry plant in Smethwick, West Midlands, U.K.

The plant had been identified as a site for possible closure in April, as the company had revealed that the plant was aging and was a cause of “significant challenges to meet the standards required by ourselves and our customers.”

Union members had met with the company concerning the fate of the plant.

The plant is expected to close on June 23, the Birmingham Post reported. About 630 employees will be affected. The company said it would be able to reassign 290 of the affected workers, while it hopes to help the remaining workers find employment opportunities.

2 Sisters Food Group is one of Britain’s largest food producers and one of the 10 largest privately held companies in the U.K. According to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, 2 Sisters Food Group supplies about one-third of all poultry products consumed in the U.K.
