An ammonia leak at Tyson Foods’ prepared foods plant in South Hutchinson, Kansas, prompted an evacuation on July 8.

Two people – both contract workers -- were injured. One was treated at the scene and released, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

“The plant was quickly evacuated and all Tyson team members were accounted for,” Tyson Foods spokesperson Carolyn Ahn stated in an email to The Hutchinson News.

The incident was reported around 8:48 a.m. The leak was quickly contained.

Pepperoni, precooked hamburger, sausage crumbles and meatballs are processed at the plant.
