In the picture - developments with ultrasonic scanning in pigs
Where scanning is concerned, not much has changed on farm since the doppler and A scan ultrasound machines began to be used for routine pregnancy diagnosis during the 1970’s in Europe. However, unlike these early devices, the modern versions now provide a good ultrasound image based on a procedure termed ultrasonography, which provides useful and potentially valuable information.
Images of the urinary bladder. A) Slight amounts of sediment (a few white spots within the black, i.e. urine); B) High amounts of sediment (almost no black, i.e. urine); C) Bladder with irregular shaped wall having also a heterogeneous echotexture. This sow also had a thick purulent discharge and evidently had a cystitis.
