It's the first month of 2016, and it’s a good time to consider this year’s travel plans. So, in my agenda for visiting trade shows and scientific conferences, I have the following events fixed (but new events might be added as I become aware of them):

February — Journées de la Recherche Porcine. This will be the premier scientific event I will be attending in 2016. It will be in Paris, and this year they have a simultaneous English translation going on. It’s a good time to find out if my remaining French is still operational! Expect a more detailed report on the way back.

June — International Pig Veterinary Society. This year I am exchanging World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, for the 24th International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) bi-annual congress in Dublin. Co-located with the IPVS will be the 8th European Symposium of Porcine Health Management. I expect to be brought up on major disease and health issues and gain a different perspective so as to become a better editor!

October — Chinese Swine Industry Symposium. It’s always a pleasure visiting Shanghai to work with customers there. Such unique problems and challenges — and I am privy to a source of the best Chinese green tea. This time, I will be giving an invited lecture at this conference — so, I have to attend, no? There might be time for some private consulting business, but nothing is fixed yet.
- November — EuroTier 2016. This bi-annual event is a must for everyone, worldwide. It comes with my highest recommendation. I have not missed a single event since 2010. If everything goes well, I will be unveiling my new book on piglet nutrition during this event. Stay tuned for more on this.
So, there you have it. So far, two trips in Europe (France and Germany), one in the States (strictly related to my consulting business), and another in China. I should probably hit Spain as well, and why not; a trip back to Eastern Europe would not hurt. Then, I can claim I have covered the majority of pig production worldwide, as befits a Pig International editor!
