Eagle Packaging Machinery offers the FA 720 PRO x-ray system for fat analysis and contamination detection. Eagle's Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry technology measures the amount of X-rays that are absorbed by the fat content and lean meat through the use of two X-ray energies, then takes the ratio of energy absorbed at each level to infer the average atomic numbers of the product scanned, in order to determine the chemical lean value, the company says. The system can also verify weight and inspect contaminants at speeds up to 160 tons of bulk/carton meat per hour.
