Brazil’s July pig meat exports sharply down

The volume of Brazil’s pig meat exports fell by 17.52% in July, demonstrating the damage caused to the industry as a result of Russia’s sanitary embargo on meat from certain states that came into effect June 15. Brazil exported 36,104 metric tons of pig meat during the month with a value of US$93.85 million – a decrease of 13.28%.

The volume of Brazil’s pig meat exports fell by 17.52% in July, demonstrating the damage caused to the industry as a result of Russia’s sanitary embargo on meat from certain states that came into effect June 15. Brazil exported 36,104 metric tons of pig meat during the month with a value of US$93.85 million – a decrease of 13.28%.

Between January and July, Brazil exported 302,957 metric tons, a decrease of 3.35% compared to the same period last year. By value, however, exports were 7.74% higher standing at US$829.12 million.

The country’s industry association, ABIPECS, notes that while exports to Russia were sharply down, exports to other countries continue to rise.
