Merck expands vaccine manufacturing at biotechnology center

Merck Animal Health has expanded the vaccine manufacturing unit at its Elkhorn Biotechnology Excellence Center, providing the company with a U.S. Department of Agriculture-approved facility that meets all Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, according to the company. The $13.5 million expansion provides Merck with 6,200 square feet of renovated and new production space, 2,500 square feet of new warehouse space, 1,300 square feet of new technical support space and two integrated vaporous hydrogen peroxide disinfection chambers.

The $13.5 million expansion provides Merck with 6,200 square feet of renovated and new production space, 2,500 square feet of new warehouse space, 1,300 square feet of new technical support space and two integrated vaporous hydrogen peroxide disinfection chambers. “The investment in the extension of the Filling Department here in Elkhorn is of significant importance as it demonstrates the commitment of Merck towards the Elkhorn Biotechnology Excellence Center as a strategic site within our global Animal Health network,” said Ernest Kontor, Ph.D., senior director of biologicals U.S. & Pacific region, Global Supply Chain Animal Health.
