Canadian poultry producer Groupe Westco and poultry and pork packer Olymel have partnered to begin construction on a CAD 40 million (US$40.8 million) poultry slaughtering plant.

The facility, Sunnymel, is expected to create 250 jobs and will take around a year to complete, according to the companies. It will have a slaughtering capacity of 450,000 birds per week. The companies hope that their partnership will strengthen the poultry industry in the area, they said in a joint statement.
