A new challenge presented to China during the 2011-2015 period is that the gap between corn production and corn consumption will be as high as 15 million tons, said Li Xirong, the secretary general of China Feed Industry Association.

Xirong also pointed out that China’s corn production has been growing rapidly during the past decade, but that the country's corn consumption is growing even faster.

Domestic corn supply will hopefully reach 205 million tons during the 2011-2015 period. However, at the same time, corn demand will reach an estimated 220 million tons, leaving a 15-million-ton gap, according to China's 12th Five-Year Plan.
