Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates Inc., a designer of sustainable infrastructure, recently received a method patent for its Eco-Treatment constructed wetland system to treat wastewater from animal confinement operations.

The company says its constructed wetlands, used as a stand-alone system or in combination with land application, offer a cost-effective solution to assist Confined Animal Feeding Operations in meeting the Food and Drug Administration's zero discharge requirement. Recently, the company says it saved the city of Washington, Ind., more than $40 million on a plan to meet federal mandates for Combined Sewage Overflows water quality.
