Glycerine improves dairy cow body condition, Ufac-UK says

Feed supplement provider Ufac-UK Ltd. says on-farm trials performed by the company have shown that feeding its glycerine to dairy cows has improved body condition and resulted in fewer metabolic problems after calving. A vet condition-scored the cows and blood samples were analyzed by an independent laboratory, taken at 21 days pre- and post-calving before supplementation and again after supplementation.

When fed Ufac-UK's glycerine, improvements in both non-esterified fatty acids, a measure of rapid weight loss and fat mobilization, and B-hydroxybutyrate, a measure of ketone that increases when animals are under energy stress, were both significantly improved, according to the company.
