Cherkizovo 2011 pig segment recovers from 2010 numbers

Company's sales volume, division growth up

Cherkizovo Group's 2011 sales volumes in the company's pig meat division increased 4 percent to approximately 91,400 metric tons of live weight, compared to 87,650 metric tons in 2010, according to the company's latest numbers.

The division delivered growth in line with expectations, said Cherkizovo's executives, as the segment recovered from the effects of the extreme weather conditions in 2010. In the course of 2011 the company expanded, launching breeding facilities at farms in Tambov, Voronezh and Lipetsk.

Prices increased by 11 percent, from 71.95 rubles (US$2.37) per kg in 2010 to 80.04 rubles (US$2.63) per kg in 2011 (excluding value-added tax). Compared to prices in the third quarter of 2011, fourth-quarter prices increased by 2 percent to 82.97 rubles (US$2.73) per kg.
