Brazil contests import duty fees set by South Africa
South Africa makes claims of poultry dumping
Brazil's poultry association, Ubabef, is threatening to lodge a complaint with the World Trade Organization over import duty fees imposed by the South African Revenue Service to limit poultry dumping, according to reports.
The products currently under investigation, whole chicken and boneless cuts, represent less than 3 percent of the total chicken consumption in South Africa, said Marilia Martins, an Ubabef official. South Africa's International Trade Administration Commission recently released a report that said chicken products from Brazil were sold in South Africa at margins between 40 percent and 60 percent lower than they would retail in Brazil.
