Brasil Foods has sent its first shipment of pig meat to China, processed in the company’s Rio Verde plant, one of only three pig meat processing sites in Brazil permitted to export to the Asian country.

The meat will be sold via the joint venture that was established by Brasil Foods with Chinese company Dah Chong Hong Ltd. The joint venture was set up to distribute products in the local market, process meat locally, develop the brand Sadia and act in the food service channels in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Currently, Brasil Foods is only allowed to export deboned pig meat to China; however, the company is working towards exporting meat on the bone.
