US poultry production forecasts up for 2012

The 2012 forecast for total poultry and red meat production has been raised from February estimates as higher broiler and turkey production is expected to more than offset lower forecast beef production, according to the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. Broiler production forecast is raised (to 36.3 billion pounds compared to February's estimate of 36.1 billion pounds) based on January production data and stronger forecast prices.

Broiler production forecast is raised (to 36.3 billion pounds compared to February's estimate of 36.1 billion pounds) based on January production data and stronger forecast prices. Turkey production is forecast higher for 2012 (5.915 billion pounds as opposed to 5.855 billion pounds) as higher prices are expected to encourage a more rapid expansion, but egg production is lowered slightly (7.655 billion pounds compared to 7.675 billion pounds) as prices are forecast lower.
