A six-year-old Cambodian girl has died from H5N1 avian influenza, the country's second death from the virus in 2012, according to the World Health Organization.

The child, who was from central Kampong Chhnang province, fell ill on March 22 and died on March 30, said the World Health Organization and the Cambodian health ministry in a joint statement. Reports say she had contact with sick or dead poultry prior to becoming sick.

The girl is the 20th person in Cambodia to become infected with bird flu since 2003, and the 18th to die from it. A two-year-old boy was the first victim in 2012, dying in January of the virus.
