Animal Agriculture Alliance summit discusses bridging urban-rural divide

Open communication vital to agriculture industries

The Animal Agriculture Alliance's eleventh annual stakeholder's summit addressed bridging the urban-rural divide to help the average consumer understand today's agricultural practices, emphasizing the importance of sharing agriculture with the general public.

The two-day event, held on May 2 and May 3, had a theme of "Real farmers real food: Celebrating tradition and technology," and allowed people to come face-to-face with modern farm practices while providing them the opportunity to get their questions answered straight from the farmer. “To me, the most moving part of this project was helping our producers feel empowered,” said Chris Herr of PennAg Industries. Speakers also emphasized the need to "open up the barn doors" to the media, focusing on building relationships with reporters through open, honest communication.
