European meat processing and exporting company Danish Crown is expanding with the addition of a beef slaughter line and carcass chills stores, and has hired Dutch company NAWI to build the facilities.

The factory will have a capacity of 120 cattle per hour and a total of 4,500 cattle per week, according to NAWI, will require a total investment of nearly €70 million and will provide employment for more than 300 people. After the facilities are established, Danish Crown plans to close down its existing slaughterhouses in Tønder and Holstebro, Denmark, as well as the cutting rooms and retail production facility in Skjern and Fårvang. The company's existing headquarters will also move to the new factory.


Operations are expected to begin in early 2014.
