DuPont and Tereos, a global processor of sugar beet, sugarcane and cereals, have announced the joint start-up of the first facility in the world to produce betaine from vinasse.
The new dedicated betaine production facility is located within Tereos' existing bioethanol production plant in France. This investment will allow DuPont to better satisfy market demand for natural betaine, according to the company. For Tereos, the partnership is an opportunity to extract further value from a distillery by-product and develop its industrial know-how through large scale production.
