Indonesia sees ninth bird flu victim in 2012

The H5N1 avian influenza virus has claimed its ninth Indonesian victim in 2012, according to the country's Health Ministry, a 37-year-old man who died on July 30 in Yogyakarta province after being hospitalized for five days. The man lived near a chicken slaughterhouse and was infected after coming into contact with sick birds.

The man lived near a chicken slaughterhouse and was infected after coming into contact with sick birds. According to the World Health Organization, 359 people have died from bird flu worldwide, and Indonesia has been the hardest-hit country, accounting for 159 of those deaths.
