JBS USA has announced that it expects the purchase of certain Canadian operations of XL Foods to be finalized on January 14.
Once the deal is closed, JBS Food Canada will take ownership of the XL Lakeside beef processing plant in Brooks, Alberta. Since October 29, 2012, JBS has managed XL Lakeside, with the capacity to process 4,000 head of cattle per day. XL Lakeside is one of the largest employers in southern Alberta and one of Canada's largest beef processors.
As part of the agreement, JBS USA also holds an exclusive option to purchase XL properties including a beef packing plant in Calgary, Alberta; a feedlot in Brooks, Alberta, and the adjacent farmland acreage; a beef packing plant in Omaha, Neb.; and a beef packing plant in Nampa, Idaho.
JBS USA is a processor of poultry, beef, pork and lamb. Among its brands are Pilgrim's, Pierce, Country Pride, Speed Grill, Swift, Aspen Ridge Natural Beef, Cedar River Farms and 5 Star Beef.
