US turkey eggs in incubators down from December

U.S. turkey eggs in incubators on January 1 totaled 28.1 million, down 1 percent from the same date in 2012, but the number of eggs in incubators was up 5 percent from the December 1, 2012, total of 26.7 million eggs, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest turkey hatchery report. Turkey poults hatched during December 2012 totaled 22 million, down 11 percent from December 2011, according to the report.

Turkey poults hatched during December 2012 totaled 22 million, down 11 percent from December 2011, according to the report. Poults hatched were down 7 percent from the November 2012 total of 23.7 poults.

The 21.1 million net poults placed during December 2012 were down 12 percent from the number placed from December 2011, and net placements were down 9 percent from the November total of 23.2 million.
