Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 197 million eggs in incubators during the most recent week.

Average hatchability for chicks was at 85 percent. Growers placed 165 million broiler-type chicks during the week ending January 12, with placements up one percent from the same week in 2012. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012, through January 12, were at 328 million, up one percent from the same period in 2011–2012.
