Avian veterinarian Serafin Garcia Freire has recently launched an online poultry environmental simulator that aims to be a didactic tool to help producers achieve an efficient environmental management in their poultry houses.
Freire began the process two years ago, creating a spreadsheet that would help growers know the costs of heating per unit time and assess the benefits of improved thermal insulation. He later added calculations to know environmental conditions within the poultry house, which includes temperature, humidity, air velocity and thermal sensation perceived by the bird, and to quantify the total growth, feed conversion and heating and electricity costs at different temperatures.
