Broiler hatchery data shows continued trend of growth

Broiler-type eggs set in commercial hatcheries reached 197 million for the week ending February 9, up one percent from the same week a year ago, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Broiler Hatchery report, released on February 13.

This growth continues a trend, where prior hatchery reports showed similar growth in its reports for the previous four weeks.

Average hatchability was at 84 percent, unchanged from one week ago.
Broiler growers participating in the 19-state weekly program placed 162 million chicks for meat production during the week of February 9, up just slightly from the same week in 2012. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012, through February 9 amounted to 977 million, up one percent from the same period a year ago.
