The H5N1 avian influenza virus has been detected on a duck farm in the German state of Brandenburg.

The flock demonstrated no clinical signs of the infection. However, on-farm monitoring detected the presence of antibodies and the results were passed to local and national authorities. The farm has been sealed off and its stock will be destroyed.

Investigations are ongoing as the how the ducks became infected. The last time that the state of Brandenburg recorded the presence of H5N1 was in 2007.
