President Barack Obama announced his intention to nominate James (Jim) Miller to be under secretary of agriculture for farm and foreign agricultural services and Dallas Tonsager to be under secretary of agriculture for rural development.

Miller is currently chief of staff for the National Farmers Union, a position he accepted in 1999 after serving four years as senior analyst for agriculture and trade on the majority staff of the Senate Budget Committee. Miller also has served as chief economist for the National Farmers Union.

Tonsager currently serves as a board member of the Farm Credit Administration, a position to which he was appointed in 2004. He also is a member of the board of directors of the Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation.
