Program can prevent abuses seen on HBO

American Humane Association offers True Humane Tracking for accountability

The American Humane Certified farm animal welfare program is appalled at the incidents of abuse shown March 16 on HBO’s “Death on a Factory Farm” documentary, according to the American Humane Association.

To avoid similar abusive situations for other farm animals, American Humane said it wants to enlist more and more food producers in its humane monitoring and labeling program.

“The HBO documentary, while depicting grossly appalling treatment of animals, makes the tremendously valid point that American consumers will not stand for animal abuse or cruelty, even if those animals are destined for the food supply,” said Tim Amlaw, director of American Humane Certified.

American Humane Certified offers a three-tiered audit program called True Humane Tracking that provides food producers with the highest level of accountability and transparency from this independent, third-party auditing process, according to the press release.
